January 24, 2007 Grass Roots on the radio!
This last Monday we made our NPR debut on KXJZ’s Insight program where
we talked about the many great artists on the Family Album and listened
to tracks from Neal Morgan, RF, Alela Diane, the Moore Brothers, Lee Bob
Watson, and Made In. Our bit is between the segment on West Sacramento gangs and a gentleman
that was retiring after 35 years of employment at the same place of business. We
had so much fun hanging out with everyone, including Insight host Jeffrey
Callison and hope they will invite us back very soon.
January 5, 2007 - Farewell 2006! Hello 2007!

Sioux. All three are exceptional artists and we look forward to
sharing their new individual full-length releases with you this summer. More

December 15, 2006 This
Weekend!
We received some great press on the Family
Album and upcoming Release Shows this week
in the SF
Weekly and the East Bay Express:
EAST BAY EXPRESS: December 11, 2006
MP3 of the Day: Hella’s “Friday the 13th”
Behold Hella: Masters of noise, flying hair, chaos, sweat, noise, and more
noise!; destoyers of drums and guitars and ears…and posers! This is
not your older brother’s indie rock group. It is not for the faint
of heart nor the weak of will. It does not bow to trends or ride waves. Avast!
Hella’s surprisingly palatable new track, “Friday the 13th,” finds
the Sacramento duo of Spencer Seim and Zach Hill coming dangerously close
to true song territory, instead of avant-garde noise-rock that starts and
ends on different continents and features little to no repeated phrases or
themes. Over the past year, the group added a few new members and deliberately
retooled its sound. Does this mean Hella has sold out? Hell no! It means
the band has got better. Much better. This bodes hella well for its new record,
due Jan. 30 on Orinda’s Ipecac Recordings.
We can thank Nevada City, CA, label Grass Roots Records for this early taste
of Hella’s new material. It recently released the Family Album compilation,
a sampling of tracks by 18 of its artists, who range in style from indie
pop (Golden Shoulders) to acoustic folk/rock (Alela
Diane) to moody post-rock (Kings & Queens)…to Hella’s riff-heavy madness. Each song
was recorded live in-studio and committed directly to tape. Grass Roots Records
celebrates the release next Sunday the 17th at Bottom of the Hill. The show
starts at 4 p.m., costs a measly $7, and features ten artists. — Nate

the Union on the launch of the record company. Click

In other news, Pitchfork posted a great article about Hella and
the group's new line up including singer/butcher Aaron Ross. Ross
was unable to make it the Family Album recordings this September
due to a cutting
accident while at work that left a few guitar plucking fingers bloody,
but
he's alright now and you can catch him live at one of the upcoming
Family
Album release parties. To read more about Aaron and Hella click

November 27, 2006 Good friend and extremely talented musician and producer Josh
Klinghoffer who has played with The Bicycle Thief, PJ Harvey, John Frusciante,

Band on stage Dec 3rd at Spaceland in LA and Dec 17 at Bottom of
the Hill in SF. Don't miss out on these rare performances. Click here for show info.

1, 2006 Copies
of the Family Album should be here any
day now. Our good friend, the insanely talented Tahiti Pehrson,
designed the album cover along with GRRco’s Creative Dude Rich
Good. The 18-Song CD also
features a color booklet with intimate photos of everyone from the
recording session at Brighton Sound Studio. Listening to the record
and flipping through the liner notes, you’ll feel like you
too were there for all the fun those two weekends – killing time
between takes by looking at Tape Op magazines from years past, snacking
on persimmons from the persimmon tree in back, exploring the lost
souls junk yard, and experiencing first hand the sonic wizardry of
sound engineer and producer Dana Gumbiner. To read more about or
hear songs from the Family Album click

We also recently added three Family Album CD
Release Shows for December:
at Spaceland in Los Angeles on December 3rd, Bottom
of the Hill in
San Francisco on December 17th, and Nevada County
Center for the Arts in Grass Valley, CA on December 22nd. With close to a dozen
of the musicians from the Family Album playing each night in a revue
style format, you haven’t seen anything like this before or
at least not in a very long time. These shows are not to be missed.
